Coles Book Club event - Thursday 19th September 2019 @ 7.00pm - Elizabeth Macneal - The Doll Factory
This is our September 'Coles Book Club' event, an opportunity to meet the author of the book you've just read. We are offering our customers a title we've selected for you to read and the chance to come along to the 'Coles Book Club' for an evening with the author - it's an opportunity to discuss the book with other readers, ask the author questions about the book, have a glass of wine and a general natter about books - just like a book club.
Buy the 'Book Club' book for £10 either here online, or in the shop in Bicester, enjoy reading it and then come along to the bookshop on 19th September and meet the author Elizabeth Macneal for an evening of discussion. And of course, get your book signed by Elizabeth on the evening - the book you buy from Coles is your ticket for the evening.
A little about the book: 'The Doll Factory'
London. 1850. The greatest spectacle the city has ever seen is being built in Hyde Park, and among the crowd watching two people meet. For Iris, an aspiring artist, it is the encounter of a moment – forgotten seconds later, but for Silas, a collector entranced by the strange and beautiful, that meeting marks a new beginning.
When Iris is asked to model for pre-Raphaelite artist Louis Frost, she agrees on the condition that he will also teach her to paint. Suddenly her world begins to expand, to become a place of art and love.
But Silas has only thought of one thing since their meeting, and his obsession is darkening . . .
About the Author: Elizabeth Macneal was born in Scotland and now lives in East London. She is a writer and potter and works from a small studio at the bottom of her garden. She read English Literature at Oxford University, before working in the City for several years. In 2017, she completed the Creative Writing MA at UEA where she was awarded the Malcolm Bradbury scholarship. The Doll Factory, Elizabeth’s debut novel, won the Caledonia Novel Award 2018.
