The Neptune Pen: A History of Burge, Warren & Ridgley by Steve Hull & Mike Bryan
Hand Signed by Steve Hull & Mike Bryan to a Book Specific Numbered Bookplate
Hardback Limited 1st Edition
New & Unread
Written by Steve Hull and Mike Bryan, the book catalogues the history of one of the earliest English makers of writing instruments. Burge, Warren & Ridgley (BWR) were pioneers of the British Fountain Pen and successful competitors to Waterman, Parker and De La Rue. In the 1890s through to 1930 the Neptune pen was as brand synomin ousname as Mabie Todd’s ‘Swan'. The book follows the history of the company from its founding c.1860 as a maker of Vulvanite (imitation jet) mourning jewellery, to the production of their first stylographic pen in 1879, up until the business was finally acquired by the Jewel Pen Co. Ltd., c.1933. It is packed with colour pictures of rare BWR pens and stylos, and there are four appendices listing the known model numbers with their dates, a reproduction of a complete Neptune catalogue from 1917, Neptune promotional items and advertising from the stationery trade press.
