Googlies, Nutmegs and Bogeys: The Origins of Peculiar Sporting Lingo by Bob Wilson
Hand Signed by Bob Wilson to the Title Page
New & Unread - Published 2006
Have you ever flashed at a zooter in the corridor of uncertainty while on a sticky dog? Maybe you’ve seen someone hit a mulligan out of the screws to grab a birdie at Amen Corner? The world of sport has its own language, wonderfully rich in strange words and phrases, whose origins often stretch back centuries. Veteran BBC presenter and football legend Bob Wilson has written this brilliant illustrated guide to the fascinating true meanings, heritage and evolution of the great sporting terms we use today.
This book was published in 2006 and as such, there is a little yellowing of the edges of the pages - but in a lovely way, it adds to aesthetic charm of this already charming book.
About the Author: Bob Wilson is the former presenter of nine football World Cups, as well as BBC Grandstand, Football Focus, Sportsnight and Match of the Day. He also presented the most watched football match in British TV history, with an audience of over 26 million. Bob originally qualified as a teacher before being lured away to play football for Scotland and Arsenal, with whom he won the European Fairs Cup and the League and FA Cup double.
Format: Hardback Edition
