This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes

Although a little chilly this morning, the thought of some sunshine and perhaps a bit of warmth over the remainder of the Easter weekend is lovely – fingers are firmly crossed. The wonderful thing about this time of the year is the prospect of getting outdoors – albeit with a sweater on. It doesn’t take much, but some of that ‘outdoorsy’ stuff really lifts the spirits. A newspaper article from last week extolled the virtue of putting the phone away and not worrying about the uncontrollable travails of the world and focusing on the self and those immediately around you instead – the bit of life you can influence and get some joy from. Add to that sentiment another piece of writing from The Times today about the benefits to our health and wellbeing of being outdoors and dreams of a cup of coffee, a chair and book by the back door seem such a simple joy and an immensely heart-filling prospect.
The Enkindled Spring by D.H. Lawrence
This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.
I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.
And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that’s gone astray, and is lost.

If you’re looking for a new fiction I would whole-heartedly recommend Brat by Gabriel Smith. This is the story of grief, and healing, interspersed with madness and odd glimpses of humour, Brat is a truly remarkable and unique look at loss.
In non-fiction we have something for everyone, including Out of This World and into the Next by Adriana Marais which will tell you everything about space exploration, so you too can be just like Katy Perry. Whilst, for children we have the fantastic novelisation of the new Minecraft movie taking cinemas by storm.
As always, if there’s anything you need, just pop by or reply to this email!
