‘Going Zero’ and trying to be responsible

Many of the books we sell will be shipped through the postal system, every day our friendly Postie comes and takes away the sacks of parcels full of customer orders – there’s no getting away from it, it’s how books are sold these days. We love the Royal Mail, not only for its part in being an essential component in the fabric of our society, but because it goes some way to shipping books in a responsible way: Postie will be in your street most days, an extra parcel on their round will not add another journey with the added costs in resources, congestion and pollution that that would generate.

When it comes to our packaging, we’ve tried to do the best we can by trying to be equally responsible. Despite the robust nature of the printed book, they can get damaged in transit – and so the right packaging is important, we want your book to arrive with you in mint condition. Some years ago we approached a local packaging manufacturer just down the road in Aylesbury (the Aylesbury Box Co.) to see if we could create some packaging, specific to Coles Books, which didn’t cost the Earth. The result is packaging made from recycled and sustainable materials which can in turn be recycled, made in a factory not too far from here to keep transport emissions low, which easily travels through the postal system and keeps our footprints as light as possible, whilst still producing something beautiful – making the buying of books the wonderful experience it should be.

Making a difference when it comes to being a responsible consumer or business can be a daunting quest – a new book coming at the end of March, ‘Going Zero’, is a tale of one family’s journey to make a difference in how they consume – you can pre-order a Coles Signed Edition by clicking on the image of the book above.

You can find out a little more about our friends at the Aylesbury Box Co. HERE and what they do in their quest for responsible and sustainable packaging.
