The contents of this volume provide comprehensive coverage of the physical principles of advanced manufacturing technologies and the know-how of their applications in the fabrication of biomedical devices and systems. The book begins by documenting the journey of miniaturization and micro-and nano-fabrication. It then delves into the fundamentals of various advanced technologies such as micro-wire moulding, 3D printing, lithography, imprinting, direct laser machining, and laser-induced plasma-assisted machining. It also covers laser-based technologies which are a promising option due to their flexibility, ease in control and application, high precision, and availability. These technologies can be employed to process several materials such as glass, polymers: polycarbonate, polydimethylsiloxane, polymethylmethacrylate, and metals such asstainless steel, which are commonly used in the fabrication of biomedical devices, such as microfluidic technology, optical and fiber-optic sensors, and electro-chemical bio-sensors. It also discusses advancements in various MEMS/NEMS based technologies and their applications in energy conversion and storage devices. The chapters are written by experts from the fields of micro- and nano-manufacturing, materials engineering, nano-biotechnology, and end-users such as clinicians, engineers, academicians of interdisciplinary background. About the Author: Prof. Shrikrishna Nandkishor Joshi is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India. He was a Visiting Faculty at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2015. His research interests include micro, nano, and precision manufacturing processes with a focus on applications of lasers in manufacturing, thin-wall machining, single point diamond turning, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing automation. Prof. Joshi published more than seventy research articles in journals of international repute and conferences. He has published two books on Laser-based Manufacturing and authored more than ten book chapters. He has developed a Massive Open Online Course on "Automation in Manufacturing" and a web course on "Mechatronics and Manufacturing Automation" as part of the Government of India's flagship project National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).Prof. Pranjal Chandra is an Assistant Professor at the School of Biochemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, India. He earned his Ph.D. from Pusan National University, South Korea and did post-doctoral training at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel. His research focus is highly interdisciplinary, spanning a wide range in biotechnology, nanobiosensors, material engineering, and nanomedicine. He has designed several commercially viable biosensing prototypes that can be operated for onsite analysis for biomedical diagnostics. He is a guest editor and an editorial board member of various international journals. He is author of over 100 high impact publications including research / reviews papers and invited book chapter. He has published 11 books on various aspects of biosensors/medical diagnostics. Dr. Chandra is the recipient of many prestigious awards, coveted honors, and fellowships such as: DST Ramanujan fellowship (Government of India);  Early Career ResearchAward (ECRA) (DST, Government of India); BK -21 and NRF fellowship, South Korea; Technion Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Israel; Nano Molecular Society India Young Scientist Award; Biotech Research Society India (BRSI) Young Scientist Award; Young Engineers Award 2018; Highly Cited Corresponding authors in The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Cambridge, London; Top 10% cited article in the General Chemistry Section RSC Jounal, Cambridge, London, Gandhian Young Technology Innovation Award (GYTI) 2020, etc. Dr. Chandra is also listed among the world's top 2% scientist in a report by Stanford University, USA.

UK Delivery

Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.

The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

Another Really Important Bit: There are a number of Postcodes in the UK for which we will need to charge a shipping supplement, this will be calculated once we know the size and weight of the shipment. For these orders we will contact customers to agree a suitable and economic method of shipping. There may also be additional time required for delivery to some areas of the United Kingdom. Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.

Coming by Car

If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking!
