The volume explores AI's transformative role in addressing ecological challenges and enhancing our understanding of the natural world. It highlights how species' ecological behavior have enriched AI's adaptive capabilities, aiding in the analysis of habitat, navigation, and communication.
"Artificial Intelligence and Animal Ecology: A Review" explores the transformative synergy between AI and animal ecology, unveiling how cutting-edge technology is revolutionizing ecological research and conservation. This pioneering book bridges these dynamic fields, demonstrating how AI techniques—such as evolutionary algorithms and optimization methods—both draw inspiration from and advance the study of animal behavior, species interactions, and environmental adaptation. With a strong focus on innovation, it examines groundbreaking AI applications, from bio-inspired algorithms and adaptive learning to breakthroughs in animal communication and behavioral analysis. Readers will gain valuable insights into how AI deciphers complex ecological dynamics, including navigation, vocal communication, and interspecies relationships. The book also addresses ethical considerations, ensuring responsible AI integration in ecological research.More than just a review, this book is a call to action. It empowers researchers, conservationists, and ecologists to embrace AI-driven solutions, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and expanding the frontiers of ecological knowledge. As AI continues to evolve, Artificial Intelligence and Animal Ecology: A Review provides a vital roadmap for addressing environmental challenges with innovation and a deeper appreciation of the natural world.

About the Author: Lidia Ghosh is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Application in RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIIT), Kolkata, India. Prior to joining RCCIIT, she served as Assistant Professor in IEM, Kolkata. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Liverpool Hope University, UK, under the auspices of the Global Challenges Research Funding Scheme. She is a recipient of the Rashtriya Uchchatara Shiksha Abhiyan Doctoral Fellowship and the University of Potential Excellence Junior Research Fellowship, both generously funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grant Commission of India, respectively. She has also received a University Gold Medal for achieving the highest percentage of marks in M.Tech. at Jadavpur University, India in 2015. She has been a guest faculty member at Jadavpur University throughout her tenure as a Ph.D. candidate and Postdoctoral Fellow. She has been nominated for the Inspire Fellowship and Inspire Faculty Fellowship. She has made notable contributions to academia through her monograph and approximately 45 research papers in esteemed journals and conference proceedings. Her expertise has also been sought as a Reviewer for publications such as the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems and the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, among others. At present, her research interests encompass the fascinating fields of cognitive neuroscience, deep learning, type-2 fuzzy sets, human memory formation, interactions between short- and long-term memories, as well as the biological foundations of perception and scientific creativity.Amiyangshu De, driven by the curiosity towards natural science is working towards understanding gender-specific auditory encoding in mouse brain and computational approach to system neuroscience. He is about to finish his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. His recent works highlight the gender-specific encoding of harmonic syllables and natural vocal sequences in mouse brain. This perception changes in the single neuron level depending on age, sex, socio-behavioural contexts, and also in developmentally compromised conditions - like in the case of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). He is a pharmacy graduate from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and obtained M. Pharm. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, M Phil. In Cognitive Science and M. Tech in Bioscience and Bioengineering. During his M. Tech. days, he was attached to Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur and National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS). His professional growth under the guidance of Professor Amit Konar destined his journey to be a natural scientist in the domain of neuroscience and cognition. He is versed with knowledge of cellular-molecular biology, human and animal cognition, cognitive loads assessment, neuronal and behavioural features in different neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological conditions in humans and animals, and pharmacological interventions with natural and synthetic molecules. He has published numerous articles and presented his works in several national and international conferences in the domain of neuroscience, cognitive science and applied medical science. His dedicated goal of knowledge acquisition and contribution to the society makes him to continue his journey.
