Over the last decade the changing healthcare environment has driven hospitals to critically evaluate and optimize their operations to enhance patient treatment and care prompting the emergence of the intelligent health system. Unlike traditional health systems, intelligent health systems are emerging as entities that leverage data, AI, the cloud and other digital tools to create strategic advantages and better outcomes. While all health systems claim to be doing this, there is a different approach used by intelligent health systems. Both models recognize the inherent power of using data and AI to improve the delivery of health services, but intelligent health systems are this this to the next level. They are using the intelligent health revolution to rethink the entire delivery model. Their focus is on leveraging AI and other technologies to efficiently provide health and medical services across all touchpoints, experiences and channels. To deal with the complexity of patient care workflows, enhance patient diagnosis, treatment, care, safety and satisfaction, home health and telemedicine the design of Intelligent Hospitals has focused on the integration of diverse technologies, to provide a seamless exchange of information. This book outlines the technologies and clinical applications which constitute the fundamentals of the Intelligent Hospital and the technologies that support patient care and health management across a spectrum of healthcare environments, the home, remote offices and treatment facilities and the hospital itself. The book introduces the changing environment of care resulting in new distributions of patients across a broad spectrum of the patient acuity and care environments, including the Intelligent Hospital; supporting treatment areas, such as the OR, Radiation Therapy, interventional radiology, patient care areas, such as the ICU, ambulatory / telemetry as well as all supporting functionality, including infection control, laboratory medicine, pathology, biomedical engineering, Informatics and Information Technology; I-Home supporting networked dynamically interact with the technologies and application in a variety of care settings. Each chapter describes the fundamentals of integrating diverse technologies and clinical systems to create a seamless environment enabling data to be share across the complete spectrum care environment, starting from the ambulance, through the emergency room, diagnostics, treatment and recovery in the hospital to the home environment. The book highlights and details specific topics, including medical devices and applications, RFID, network and wireless infrastructure; interoperability and integrations, artificial intelligence and much more with a focus on connectivity, integrations and architecture to create a seamless environment.
About the Author: Paul Frisch is currently an Associate Attending in the Department of Medical Physics and the Chief of Biomedical Engineering at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He currently serves on technical committees and advisory boards including IEEE Counsel on RFID, ECRI Institute and serves as the Chief Technical Officer for the RFID in Healthcare Consortium and President of the Intelligent Health Association. Paul's responsibility focuses on the investigation of new and evolving technologies and developing their potential integration into clinical applications and operations to enhance patient outcomes, care, and safety. Current areas of investigation focus on clinical 3D imaging and printing, robotics, and medical device development. Previous experiences include research in electromagnetic field induced gene expression in targeted gene therapy, human biodynamics resulting from transitory acceleration, such as crash-impact and aircraft ejection and robotic applications in pharmaceutical development. Paul Frisch has a Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering from the State University of New York at Binghamton and Masters and Bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is the co-author of the forthcoming Routledge title, Leveraging Technology as a Response to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

UK Delivery
Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.
The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

Another Really Important Bit: There are a number of Postcodes in the UK for which we will need to charge a shipping supplement, this will be calculated once we know the size and weight of the shipment. For these orders we will contact customers to agree a suitable and economic method of shipping. There may also be additional time required for delivery to some areas of the United Kingdom. Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.

We use the same packaging materials for our overseas deliveries as we do those in the UK. In some cases, particularly large and heavy books, or books being shipped to remote areas, may incur an additional shipping charge - if this is the case with your order, we'll notify you as quickly as possible of these charges and to arrange the additional payment. You can of course cancel your order with an immediate refund should you not wish to accept these additional costs. Shipments to overseas territories may incur additional Duty & Tax costs which could be requested by Fed Ex at the time of delivery. If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking!
