This co-authored study is a long-awaited theoretical re-evaluation of organizational and management history. The authors explore the disciplinary advantages of a joint approach to these related fields, noting opportunities for future scholarship, from the wider range of industries and case types to the richer theoretical toolbox. Within this framework, the book investigates interdisciplinary methodologies and surveys and analyzes the most promising of the newest theoretical lenses and empirical approaches in the field. The authors address complex issues from a metacritical perspective, from the emergent theorization of time in the context of organizational identity to the conundrum of case selection for empirical studies. Clear and thorough, the volume creates a compelling theoretical framework for future studies. New Directions in Organizational and Management History inaugurates, and sets the stage for, the new series De Gruyter Studies in Organizational and Management History.
About the Author: Dr. Sonia Coman is the Director of Digital Engagement at the Washington National Cathedral. In her previous role, she led the Marketing and Communications team at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art as Audience Engagement Strategist. Her other experience includes strategic planning, cultural product marketing, research, and curatorial work. She has a B.A. from Harvard University (Magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her dissertation used qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the social network underlying the production of cross-pollinating Japanese and French ceramics at the turn of the twentieth century. Dr. Coman serves on the Editorial Board of Brill's Journal of Japonisme and as co-editor of the De Gruyter Series in Organizational and Management History. She is a regular contributor to Smarthistory, the world's most visited digital art history resource, and the author of interdisciplinary articles and chapters on style formation in the creative industries and on legacy in long-lived organizations. Andrea Casey is Associate Professor, Human & Organizational Learning at George Washington University. Dr. Casey's teaching and research interests include organizational cognition in areas such as collective memory and organizational identity and learning. She is an active member of the Academy of Management (AOM) and has served as Division Chair for the Managerial and Organizational Cognition (MOC) Division and recently completed a three-year term on the Board of Governors. She has reviewed papers and proposals for multiple divisions of AOM including MOC, Research Methods, Organization and Management Theory, and Management Consulting and also reviews for the Eastern Academy of Management, the Academy of HRD, and the Organizational Learning, Knowledge and Capabilities International Conference. In addition she has reviewed for journals such as AOM Review, Organization Science, Management Learning, and Human Relations. Dr. Casey is on the Editorial Board of Management and Organizational History and was a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Management. She has more than 15 years' experience as an external HRD consultant to state government and private non-profit organizations throughout the USA. In her HRD work, she is primarily involved in leadership development, strategic planning and organizational change initiatives. She is author of Organizational identity and memory: A multidisciplinary approach published by Routledge in 2018.

UK Delivery
Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.
The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

Another Really Important Bit: There are a number of Postcodes in the UK for which we will need to charge a shipping supplement, this will be calculated once we know the size and weight of the shipment. For these orders we will contact customers to agree a suitable and economic method of shipping. There may also be additional time required for delivery to some areas of the United Kingdom. Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.

All overseas orders are shipped using a 'signed for' courier service - please provide an address at which your parcel can be signed for on receipt. We use the same packaging materials for our overseas deliveries as we do those in the UK. In some cases, particularly large and heavy books, or books being shipped to remote areas, may incur an additional shipping charge - if this is the case with your order, we'll notify you as quickly as possible of these charges and to arrange the additional payment. You can of course cancel your order with an immediate refund should you not wish to accept these additional costs. Shipments to overseas territories may incur additional Duty & Tax costs which could be requested by Fed Ex at the time of delivery. Coming by Car
If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking!
