Principles of Chemical Engineering Processes: Material and Energy Balances continues to serve an essential text, guiding students on the basic principles and calculation techniques used in the field of chemical engineering and providing a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the application of material and energy balances. This third edition has been updated to reflect advances in the field and feedback from professors and students. Packed with illustrative examples and case studies, this book:

Features learning objectives and homework problems in every chapter, new material on software modeling, and additional and enhanced solved examples and problems.

Discusses problems in material and energy balances related to chemical reactors and explains the concepts of dimensions, units, psychrometry, steam properties, and conservation of mass and energy.

Demonstrates how Python, MATLAB®, and Simulink® can be used to solve complicated problems of material and energy balances, and now features an introduction to the basics of building Simulink models.

Demonstrates how Python and its libraries, such as NumPy and SciPy, can be used to solve complex problems in material and energy balances, and introduces the basics of building models using Python frameworks similar to Simulink.

Shows how to solve steady-state and transient mass and energy balance problems involving multiple-unit processes and recycle, bypass, and purge streams.

Develops quantitative problem-solving skills, specifically the ability to think quantitatively (including numbers and units), the ability to translate words into diagrams and mathematical expressions, the ability to use common sense to interpret vague and ambiguous language in problem statements, and the ability to make judicious use of approximations and reasonable assumptions to simplify problems.

Offers educational software and sample tutorials and quizzes for download.

Aimed at both chemical engineering students and professionals, this book helps readers understand how to calculate, manage, and apply the key ideas of material and energy use in chemical processes through real-world examples. Lecture slides and a solutions manual are available with qualifying course adoption.

About the Author: Nayef Ghasem is a professor of chemical engineering at the United Arab Emirates University, where he teaches undergraduate courses in process modeling and simulation, natural gas processing, reactor design in chemical engineering, and graduate and undergraduate courses in chemical engineering. He has published primarily in modeling and simulation, bifurcation theory, polymer reaction engineering, advanced control, and CO2 absorption in gas-liquid membrane contactors. He is the author of 3 other CRC Press books, Numerical Methods in Chemical Engineering Using Python® and Simulink®, Computer Methods in Chemical Engineering, and Modeling and Simulation of Chemical Process Systems. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).Redhouane Henda is a professor of chemical engineering at the Laurentian University, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. His research focuses on nanoscience and technology of thin films and process engineering of complex systems. He has received fellowships from the French Ministry of Higher Education and the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, as well as a scholarship from the Research Council of Norway. He earned his M.Sc and Ph.D from the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, France, and spent a postdoctoral fellowship at the Universität Heidelberg, Germany. Widely published, he has served on the editorial boards of numerous journals and developed computer modules for research and education.

UK Delivery

Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.

The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

First Item @ £3.75 (sometimes a shipping supplement may be added for particularly heavy books or specific postcodes*)
2 Items & over @ £5.00 in total

Another Really Important Bit: There are a number of Postcodes in the UK for which we will need to charge a shipping supplement, this will be calculated once we know the size and weight of the shipment. For these orders we will contact customers to agree a suitable and economic method of shipping. There may also be additional time required for delivery to some areas of the United Kingdom. Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.
