Python Network Programming Cookbook - Second Edition highlights the major aspects of network programming in Python, starting from writing simple networking clients to developing and deploying complex Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) systems. It creates the building blocks for many practical web and networking applications that rely on various networking protocols. It presents the power and beauty of Python to solve numerous real-world tasks in the area of network programming, network and system administration, network monitoring, and web-application development.
In this edition, you will also be introduced to network modelling to build your own cloud network. You will learn about the concepts and fundamentals of SDN and then extend your network with Mininet. Next, you'll find recipes on Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) and open and proprietary SDN approaches and frameworks. You will also learn to configure the Linux Foundation networking ecosystem and deploy and automate your networks with Python in the cloud and the Internet scale.
By the end of this book, you will be able to analyze your network security vulnerabilities using advanced network packet capture and analysis techniques.
Style and approach
This book follows a practical approach and covers major aspects of network programming in Python. It provides hands-on recipes combined with short and concise explanations on code snippets. This book will serve as a supplementary material to develop hands-on skills in any academic course on network programming. This book further elaborates network softwarization, including Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and orchestration. We learn to configure and deploy enterprise network platforms, develop applications on top of them with Python.
About the Author: Pradeeban Kathiravelu is an open source evangelist. He is a Ph.D. researcher at INESC-ID Lisboa/Instituto Superior Tecnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, and Universite Catholique de Louvain, Belgium. He is a Fellow of Erasmus Mundus Joint Degree in Distributed Computing (EMJD-DC), researching a software-defined approach to quality of service and data quality in multi-tenant clouds. Pradeeban holds a master of science degree, Erasmus Mundus European Master in Distributed Computing (EMDC), from Instituto Superior Tecnico, Portugal and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. He also holds a first class bachelor of science in engineering (Hons) degree, majoring in computer science and engineering, from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. His research interests include Software-Defined Networking (SDN), distributed systems, cloud computing, web services, big data in biomedical informatics, Network Functions Virtualizations (NFV), and data mining. He is very interested in free and open source software development and has been an active participant in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program since 2009, as a student and as a mentor. Pradeeban has published several conference papers and co-authored a few book chapters. He has also worked on OpenDaylight Cookbook and Learning OpenDaylight as a technical reviewer. Python Network Programming Cookbook, Second Edition (2017) is his first book as an author, and he is quite excited about it.

UK Delivery
Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.
The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

Another Really Important Bit: There are a number of Postcodes in the UK for which we will need to charge a shipping supplement, this will be calculated once we know the size and weight of the shipment. For these orders we will contact customers to agree a suitable and economic method of shipping. There may also be additional time required for delivery to some areas of the United Kingdom. Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.

All overseas orders are shipped using a 'signed for' courier service - please provide an address at which your parcel can be signed for on receipt. In some cases, particularly large and heavy books, or books being shipped to remote areas, may incur an additional shipping charge - if this is the case with your order, we'll notify you as quickly as possible of these charges and to arrange the additional payment. You can of course cancel your order with an immediate refund should you not wish to accept these additional costs. Shipments to overseas territories may incur additional Duty & Tax costs which could be requested by Fed Ex at the time of delivery. If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking!
