Schizophrenia is one of the most traumatic psychiatric disorders, both for the affected person and their family. The disorder usually manifests itself through significant periods of hallucinations, bizarre delusions, and disorganized behaviour, but the individuals who suffer from this brain disorder are not generally violent, and do have periods of remission. However it is often difficult for these individuals to maintain a regular lifestyle and relationships at home and at work, and many individuals with schizophrenia end up unable to live independently or, worse, homeless.
This new edition in the popular Facts series provides a concise and up-to-date account of the underlying causes and symptoms of schizophrenia, as well as current theories about the disorder. The authors look at all the current treatment options, both medical and psychological, together with likely side-effects and the problem of compliance with treatment. The role of the family and the community in caring for individuals with schizophrenia is also considered. The authors are experienced psychiatrists and psychologists with many years' experience in the treatment and study of schizophrenia. This book will provide a welcome source of information for individuals with schizophrenia, their family members, and those involved in caring for them.
About the Author: Stephen J. Glatt, Ph.D., is the principal investigator on two Research Project grants from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and a co-investigator or consultant on several others. Dr. Glatt is working primarily on genome-wide association and expression studies of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease, and other mental disorders. Dr. Glatt is an author on over 120 journal articles, invited manuscripts, and book chapters, and has been invited to present his work in numerous national and international forums. Dr. Glatt is Associate Editor of Neuropsychiatric Genetics, Editor-at-Large for Methodology and Statistics for Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and an ad-hoc reviewer for many other top journals in the field of psychiatry. Stephen V. Faraone, Ph.D., studies the nature and causes of mental disorders in childhood and has made contributions to research in psychiatric genetics, psychopharmacology, diagnostic issues and methodology. An author on over 900 journal articles, editorials, chapters, and books, he was the eighth highest producer of High Impact Papers in Psychiatry from 1990 to 1999 as determined by the Institute for Scientific Information. In 2013 he was the third most highly cited researcher in psychiatry and psychology. From 2014 to 2017 he has been listed as a highly cited researcher by Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics. Professor Faraone is Editor of Neuropsychiatric Genetic, Program Director of the educational website www.adhdinadults.com , Vice President of the World Federation for ADHD, and a Board member for the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders. Ming T. Tsuang, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc. FRCPsych, is recognized worldwide for his research in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. One of his areas of interest is in the interactions between genetic and environmental risk factors for severe mental disorders. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine, and served on the U.S. National Advisory Mental Health Council. He has been elected Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, American College of Psychiatrists, the American Psychopathological Association, and British Royal Society of Psychiatrists, and Council Member of the Taiwan National Health Research Institute. He has authored or co-authored over 900 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and books in the areas of psychiatric epidemiology and genetics, including major psychoses, substance abuse, and spiritual health. In addition to serving on many editorial boards of scientific journals, he is currently the Senior Editor of Neuropsychiatric Genetics.

UK Delivery
Orders for delivery in the UK are normally despatched by Royal Mail, using the RM 48 Tracked Service with most orders delivered to you within a few days of placing your order with us. For larger parcels, Courier and Signed For delivery services may be used. Signed Books are shipped in our specially made book mailing cartons, with the books themselves wrapped in paper to protect them. Sometimes we may ship your order in several parts, particularly if you have 'Pre-Order' titles in your order or titles which are held in stock with our publishing partners.
The Really Important Bit: Because we use tracked, courier and signed for delivery services, please use an address at which your parcel can be received during the normal working day, for example, you may want to have your order delivered to your work address if you're not at home during the day.

Where possible, we will ship book orders (under 2kg) by Royal Mail to all UK postcodes. Large multiple book orders and books over 2kg are often shipped via APC Overnight or similar, regardless of Postcode.

If you're coming to Coles by car, why not take advantage of the 2 hours free parking at Sainsbury's Pioneer Square - just follow the signs for Pioneer Square as you drive into Bicester and park in the multi-storey car park above the supermarket. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. You don't need to shop in Sainsbury's to get the free parking!
