This new 600+-page book volume, Temperate Nut Crops: Cultivation, Science, and Innovation, provides comprehensive coverage of the captivating world of temperate nut-bearing trees, delving into the intricate aspects of these remarkable plants, offering a holistic exploration of their cultivation and utilization. It brings together a collective wealth of knowledge, research, and innovation in the realm of temperate nut crops, offering valuable insights for horticulturists, scientists, growers, and nut enthusiasts. The volume begins by introducing tree nuts and providing an overview of the importance, history, and scope of temperate nut crops. It goes on to cover topics that include floral biology and pollination of tree nuts; plant growth regulators that play a pivotal role in the growth and development of nut-bearing trees, the phytochemical properties of tree nuts and their diverse culinary and medicinal applications; and the microbial diversity of nut crops, looking at the role of microbes in tree health, soil ecology, and nut quality. The volume explores the forward-looking transformative role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in advancing research, cultivation, and management of temperate nut crops. The latest techniques and innovations in propagating nut-bearing trees, from traditional methods to cutting-edge micropropagation techniques, are shared, along the potential of genetic manipulation and genome editing in developing resilient and superior nut-bearing tree varieties. The volume also presents effective and environmentally friendly integrated disease and pest management practices, essential postharvest practices for preserving nut quality and extending shelf life, and new micropropagation techniques that are revolutionizing the production of elite nut crop varieties. Of course, the book also discusses the challenges faced in nut crop production and explore strategies and technologies to overcome these constraints, ensuring sustainable and efficient cultivation and discusses how omics technologies are revolutionizing the way we understand and enhance temperate nut crop varieties.Temperate Nut Crops: Cultivation, Science, and Innovation is a rich resource that covers nearly all aspects of tree nut crops and will be an invaluable one-stop reference for researchers, scientists, growers, industry professionals and others interested in tree nut science and agriculture.
